Starting Your 2019 Right

This is a time of year where we all start making commitments about our health moving forwards. Ambitious plans are set to make huge changes in the way we live our lives and it is usually based purely on the physical. Appearance drives the need for change in our head but what if we looked at it differently.
I like to look at my own well being through four lenses:
- Posture
- Nutrition
- Emotion
- Scars
When we look at just one (like nutrition) and neglect the other parts, we usually fall off the bandwagon back our old habits. If we took on emotion with that, we may be able break the unconscious habit around food and address the way that we treat ourselves, so already, adding in an extra one has us on to a winner.
This little video (even though dates for 2017) tells you a little more about each one and of course encourages YOGA (Surprise!) to help you get 3 out of those 4!
I have really puzzled over what to make a resolution about this year and I think I have come up with something that will challenge me. My plan is to be less of an ideologue. I have been stuck to my one system of Yoga as the be all and end all as if all others pale to insignificance. But, that's not true! I get so much out of a Vinyasa practice and so much fun out of doing flow sessions. This year, I am planning on attending more classes and workshops to change how I use my body (posture), to see what works for my body (nutrition), and also to reflect on how I am as a teacher when I absorb this information (emotion). Teaching isn't a static for me, I feel like each time I learn something new, all my old information has to be re-sorted in relation to the new piece. I am looking forward to it! The old scar gets replaced by new, vibrant tissue (scars).
So, from me in Scotland, I wish you a happy and healthy New Year and I look forward to meeting some of you on the Yoga mat!
